Mark Hanrahan wins Cork title
Cork & Donegal county results
Mark Hanrahan (Leevale AC) overcame the tough conditions to win his third Cork senior cross country title at The Showgrounds Clonakilty today. Heavy overnight rain made underfoot conditions tough and a heavy shower during the last lap ensured athletes would have plenty to talk about afterwards.
As well as the conditions, the Leevale man had to overcome the persistent challenge of Sean McGrath (East Cork AC) before breaking clear on the last lap. East Cork’s James McCarthy was third.
Triathlete Lizzie Lee looked to have the senior women’s title at her mercy after a display of front running. However, Rhona Lynch (Eagle AC) closed considerably in the closing stages, but it was not enough.
Ryan Creech made it three individuals for Leevale when he easily won the junior men’s title, while Michelle Hartnett (Grange Fermoy AC) easily won the junior women’s title.
