Three very successful workshops were held over the past two weeks in the South West with big turnouts from athletes/coaches in the region. A great throws workshop was held at Cork IT with coaches Jerry Horgan (Shot) and John Sheehan (Javelin) taking the coaches and athletes through their paces. Over 25 coaches took part and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.
Also held in Cork IT on the eve of the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country championships, was a Road Running/Endurance workshop with nearly 50 people attending. It was a very interactive night with many views shared on distance running. Guest speaker on the night was the 2009 Cork City Marathon winner Michael Herlihy and he made a great contribution to the night’s success.
Finally a Jumps workshop was held at the UL Indoor Arena with over 15 people attending and taking the opportunity to run through some great sessions with coaches Rosemary Daniels (High Jump) and Gareth Devlin (Long Jump). It proved to be a very enjoyable session indoors due to terrible weather outside. Many thanks to all the athletes/coaches that supported the workshops and indeed to all the coaches that helped run them.
