Mageean in 1,500m Final Today

markenglishimg_3979The final day of competition at the World Junior track and field championships gets under way in Moncton Canada today. Irish interest will centre on Ciara Mageean from Lisburn AC who contests the 1,500m final at 6.15pm Irish time. Yesterday there were two Irish competitors in action, John Travers from Donore Harriers was 13th in the 5,000m in a time of 14:55.12, while Mark Patterson from North Down was seventh in the semi final of the 800m in a time of 1:50.96, but was subsequently DQ’d for lane infringment.

Closer to home the British Milers Club Grand Prix was held at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast for the first time ever. Amongst the many highlights was that of Mark English from Letterkenny AC who won the B 800m race in a time of 1:49.87, just outside his Irish Youths record of 1:49.71.
