In Ohio on Friday (27/2) Mairead Murphy made a fantastic return to combined events by putting in a performance that missed the Irish Senior Pentathlon record by just 11 points.
The record currently held by her Ferrybank coach, Brid Golden, came under threat as Mairead took second place competing with the Kansas State Wildcats team. Only 247 points separated first to third in the senior women’s pentathlon, all of whom were teammates of Mairead.
Kansas State head coach Cliff Rovelto said it was a strong showing from his Wildcats and he praised his newcomers for putting in impressive performances for the team. Rovelto said. “Mairead was super. She hasn’t competed in multis in years and had a huge PR just missing her national record”.
Mairead’s scores were:
60H: 8.65, 984pts
HJ: 1.65m, 795pts
SP: 11.29m, 614pts
LJ: 5.48m, 694pts
800m: 2:20.9 , 811pts
Total: 3898pts
