The National Throws squad had a full day of events in Tullamore on Sunday. National Throws Coordinator - David Sweeney said that “Many thanks are due to all the athletes and coaches for their input and efforts during the day. The squad came at a perfect time with the inaugural Dunboyne Winter Throws Meet kicking off next Saturday morning March 3rd at 10.30am. Hammer and Discus will be the selected events for the first running of this event.”
Garry Power gave a very informative talk on how to train specifically to become explosive. After the talk, all athletes were split into their event groups and given the task of planning a suitable program for the next stage of their annual training plan. Each event group then gave a presentation to the squad and came up with some very good ideas for training.
As well as several throwing sessions in each event group, everyone gathered for the announcement of the athletes that were selected on the elite ‘Polanik Throws Squad’ supported by www.prosporteurope.com

Hammer: Cara Kennedy, Alice Akers, James McCabe, Dempsey McGuigan, Adam King, Fellan McGuigan and Andrew Doyle.
