The National Squad Combined Events athletes gathered on Sunday (26th) in Kilkenny for a full day of work with their national coaches
After registration and a welcome address the athletes prepared for a day of multi event technical coaching. Each athlete was rotated through four event sessions. Brid Golden coached the sprint hurdles; Lucy Moore coached the high jump. Alan Golden directed the long jump and Ailish O’Brien provided instruction on the shot putt.
This was the first National Squad that included selected juvenile athletes based on their performance at the recent National Combined events indoor championships. These athletes performed very well alongside their youth, junior and senior colleagues.
In total 20 attended on the day with a few regulars out due to injury.
Colin Byrne, RDO for the South East dropped by to meet the coaches and observe some of the sessions. The day closed at 3pm with athletes receiving a goody bag kindly sponsored by Elevry’s Sports that was much appreciated by all.
The next National CE Squad day is on the 11th of March at 10am back in Kilkenny. Details will be sent to squad members and club secretaries by email.
