Cara Bundoran 10 titles go to Brennan and Jennings.

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Letterkenny pair Catriona Jennings and Patrick Brennan were popular and impressive Cara Bundoran 10 mile victors when over 800 runners and walkers, in ideal conditions, graced the streets and roads around Bundoran on Saturday last. Brennan, originally from North Sligo, now studying for a Masters in LYIT, finished 2nd in last years inaugural event, was in a class of his won as he moved away from the mass field to win in a good time of -54mins 17secs. ‘I’m delighted with my run and time considering that I have difficulty, because of study, finding time to train at the moment. The minor mens placings went to Gary Slevin, City of Derry, 56mins 58secs, Brian Crossan, 57mins32secs

Catriona Jennings, a native of Letterkenny and running out of Rathfrnham/AJax in Dublin, smashed last years women’s record in an excellent time of 57mins 34secs.On her first visit to Bundoran she indicated afterwards that an Olympic Marathon qualification time was on her horizon. Popular local athlete and 2011 winner, Breege Connolly, running out of North Belfast Harriers, also posted a very good time of 58mins 2secs ahead of third placed Fiona Roche, Raheny Shamrocks, 59mins 10secs

All who participated, supported and helped organise this community event in Bundoran on Saturday were winners - the elite athletes, the fit4life runners/walkers, meet and train groups, individuals and groups participating for charity, and the families and friends that came out to help and support. The buzz and feel good factor of this event in the local community and amongst the thousands that came to spectate and support was a tonic. The organising group/committee and the various individuals and groups that assisted deserve our gratitude.
Led by a small committee and main sponsors,Canice Nicholas, Cara Pharmacies, and Paddy Donoghue, SAF, Race Director, Eamon Harvey, Tracey Ferguson, Bundoran Town Council, Tony Cummins, Health and Safety/Medical, Catherine Mullaney, Brenda Morris and Cara Pharmacy Staff -all should take a bow.
