Orla Drumm (UCC AC) became the latest Irish athlete to achieve the A standard for the European championships when she competed at a meet in Dessau Germany last night. She finished sixth in the 1,500m in a time of 4:09.05 which is over three seconds faster than she has run before and inside the 4:10.15 standard for Helsinki.
At the same meet Steven Colvert (Crusaders AC) was just one hundredth of a second off his best when he won the 200m in 20.78, finishing well clear if the field.
At the Hyundai Grand Prix in Oslo Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn AC) ran a fast time to finish second in the 1,000m in a time of 2:38.89.
In Chula Vista California Tori Pena (Finn Valley AC) won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.50m – just 2cm shy of her Irish record.
