Dundrum South Dublin AC Ladies team finished in a superb sixth place at the European Clubs Championships in Monte Gordo, Portugal on the 26th/27th of May.
There was world class performance across most events including a 6.95 long jump and a 71m hammer throw. D.S.D AC battled hard and finally got the better of Montreuil, France and Rotterdam, Holland, both of whom were relegated. Deirdre Ryan placed second in the high jump and Clare Tarplee finished third in the long jump. Other strong performances came from Linda Byrne, Hazel Murphy, Anita Fitzgibbon and Fiona Clinton. A fantastic team effort from everybody involved in the event.
Clonliffe Harriers were competing in Slovakia in group B of the European clubs track and field. Although Clonliffe were disappointed with their result there was a few positive to take away from the competition.
John Fagan finished second in the 400m hurdles (54.51) and Tomas Rauktys places third in both the shot (16.59) and discus (51.58). David Donegan, despite having to borrow poles (his were held up in Ireland), finished third in the pole vault with an excellent best of 4.80m, Donegan narrowly failed a new club record of 5.05m.Andrew Heney jumped 2.00m in the high jump and Jamye Rossiter ran an impressive 3,000 steeplechase PB of 9.16.16 to place fourth.
