The World Athletics Day is the IAAF’s annual youth festival and it’s held globally to promote athletics to young athletes. This year Athletics Ireland held events at both clubs and schools competitions. The schools event was in conjunction with the Leinster Schools on May 16th and the focus was on the junior age group.
The young athletes received t-shirts, certs and wrist bands and they were very pleased with these items. The competition was held in bright sunshine and the favourable conditions led to some very strong performances. There were some excellent competitions with many personal bests achieved. The focus now moves onto the Irish Schools championships and many of these young athletes will be in action again.
