With exactly 2 months to go before the athletics begins at the London Olympics, The Technical Committee are delighted to publish yet more details documenting Ireland’s history in the Olympics Games.
After publishing the previous one documenting our history since 1924, it was decided that even though athletes prior to this had to compete for other countries while awaiting Irish independence, this was by no means the fault of the athletes and their deeds should be recorded and included in our glorious Olympic history.
So did you know:
What two Olympics Dublin actually bid to host?
What Mayo born athlete has won 5 Gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal?
What Cork twins ran the 100m in the 1908 London Olympics?
What Fermanagh born athlete won bronze in the 100m in 1908 and gold in the 200m?
What Galway and Cork born athletes won steeplechase silvers in 1904 & 1920 respectively?
What Antrim born athlete won Marathon gold in 1912?
What Limerick born brothers won High Jump medals in 1900 & 1908?
What Clare born athlete won Shot Put gold in 1912?
What Limerick born man won 3 Hammer gold medals before a Tipperary born man and another Limerick born man won the next 2 gold medals?
