The popular Furey Insurances 5K six race series kicked off on the Bay Road circuit last April and after successful visits to Lisnagelvi, Buncrana, Culmore and Carndonagh since then, its concludes tonight Wednesday July 18th on the familiar Baliniska/ Branch road circuit. Race HQ is at the Templemore Sports Complex and entries will be taken there from 6pm with the race start in the Baliniska Industrial Estate at 7 30pm.
The usual big turnout is expected with the added attraction of the final race resolving the identities of the overall category winners, accomodating the presentation of the souvineer T Shirts…for all who will have completed a minimum of four races… and of course setting up an exciting night’s racing for both participants and spectators.
Wednesday’s race is sponsored by The Healthy Way store in Guildhall Place and Noel and Cathy King will be on hand with samples of their health and nutrition wares which will be of interest to runners of all abilities. Sean Furey of overall series sponsors Furey Insurances will also be present to hand over the series awards and the much acclaimed post race refreshments will be available back at the Complex from 8 30pm.
A great night is guaranteed, the competition should be terrific right down the field and just who’s who in the pecking order should all unfold on the two lap circuit. So whether you are a 15 minute performer or a 30 minute man/woman, or somewhere in between , make sure you get yourself and your racing shoes to the start line tomorrow night.
Furey Insurances 5k Series 2012 Overall Prizes with 1 races to go!
The state of affairs going into the last race. Prizes given are first 2 open/masters and U20 in male/female
Take the women’s open first. If Marina runs (as she intends to) then she should win with Catherine Lilburn 2nd. If she doesn’t turn up then it depends on the score in the last race for Miriam Bridge and Martina Mullan (if she turns up?). Note the women are calculated separately from the men!
Next up the men’s open. If Scott Rankin turns up he should win clearly as long as he has a decent run (same for marina). 2nd place will be between Paddy Mor or Pius who has a good score so far. If neither Scott Rankin nor Paddy Mor turn up then it will be between Dominic Bonner, Benny Mullan or Gerald Doherty from Inishowen. If Dominic places in the top two in the open remove him from the vets.
Male U20 is between Dale and Zachary with Dale slightly ahead but has only done 3 races. The female u20 is clearly Hannah McGowan as no other FU20 has done enough races.
Finally to the Age Graded.
Women first,
Looks a real tight battle between Bridgeen and Jackie with Bridgeen’s age graded average just 2 sec ahead of Jackie. Jackie has had a birthday since the last race so that could have an effect. The only other one to watch out for is Martina Mullan who could have an effect if she runs really well?
Men is more complicated.
Sammy will clearly either win or be second, only one who can beat him is Dominic Bonner. If Dominic is not there or features in the top two for the open then move down to the next option. Benny Mullan is a likely candidate but I has only done 3. Other contenders are Thomas McCallion. Mark Linton, Colin Dean or Michael Gallagher none of which I know their age for sure.
Best of luck to everyone tonight.
