Mountain runner Sarah McCormack (Clonliffe Harriers) continued her outstanding 2012 form by taking 30 seconds off her 5000m time when winning the British Milers Club grand prix finale in Bedford on Saturday. McCormack won by 5 seconds from Hannah Walker and in the process confirmed her well-being for the World Mountain Running championships in Italy on September 2nd. Her time of 15:49:03 is a huge improvement on her previous best from June of 16:19. She has spent much of the last six weeks in the Scottish mountains preparing for the uphill World championships in Northern Italy. Her time ranks her second in the Irish ranking lists for 2012 behind Fionnuala Britton.
“That is definitely my best run of the season, better than my win in the 10,000m at the British Students’ Championships,” said McCormack.
Thomas Chamney (Crusaders AC) won the A 1,500m in 3:45.32.
