The Aviva Ulster Schools Combined Events Championship took place in Ballykillaire, Bangor on the 13th of September. The event brought together many of Ulster’s top young talent, as they aimed to capture a regional title. The event also acted as a qualifier for the Aviva All Ireland Schools on Saturday 29th of September.
The performance of the day came from Christian Robinson (Carrickfergus GS) in the Inter Boys event. Robinson came out on top in all six of the events including a 15.3 in the hurdles, 6.01m in the long jump and 24.4 for the 200m. Robinson amassed a total of 3,248 points to take the title, ahead of second place Jonathan Hill (Sullivan Upper) 2,898 and third place Stuart McEwan on 2,432.
Adam Hill (Sullivan Upper) produced a fine performance to claim the Senior Boys event amassing a total of 3,267 points. Hill was particularly impressive in the high jump where he cleared 1.90m.
The Junior Girls pentathlon was one of the closest battles of the day with only nine points separating the top two athletes. Caitlin Rose (MCB) and Jessica McMaster (Belfast High) where the two athlete’s in question as they both battled it out for the title. Rose just managed to take the victory with a total of 2,512 points, which included a 12.3 second win in the 75m hurdles. McMaster placed second with a total score of 2,503, only nine points from victory.
The Inter Girls Title went to Naomi Morgan (Coleraine High), after producing a number of top performances to amass a total of 2,691 points over the five events.
