The Aviva Leinster Schools Combined Events Championship took place in Santry Stadium, on the 19th of September. The event brought together many of Leinster’s top young talent, as they aimed to capture a regional title. The event also acted as a qualifier for the Aviva All Ireland Schools on Saturday 29th of September.

Mark Rogers (St Josephs Drogheda) produced an outstanding set of results to take the Inter Boys title. Rogers amassed a total score of 3,493 points over the six event contest. The high Jump proved to be the turning point, when Rogers cleared 1.90m to seal victory. Owen Scully (Pres Carlow) put in a battling performance to secure second place with a total of 3,283 points.

In the senior boys event Paul Byrne (Pres Carlow) was the only athlete over 3,000 points as he took victory with 3,003 points ahead of second place Conor King (St Aidans) on 2,777 points. Luke Bellintani (Belvedere College) was victorious in the Junior Boy’s event with a score of 2,743 points. Bellintani impressed particularly in the hurdles event, taking victory in 12.3.

Niamh Kelly (Sacred Heart Drogheda) amassed a total of 2,928 points to take victory in the Junior Girls competition. Kelly was consistent throughout the five event competition and saw off the challenge of Elizabeth Moorland (Dunshaughlin AC)who placed second with 2,899 points.

Amy McTeggart (O.L. College) impressively won the Intermediate girls title with a score of 2,899 points. McTeggart cleared 1.55m in the high jump which propelled her to overall victory ahead of Niamh Quinn (Scoill Chriost Ri) who scored a total of 2,726 points.

Niamh Furey (Scoil Ui Mhuire) was victorious in the senior girls competition with a score of 2,051 points.
