The Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon takes place at the University of Limerick on Sunday 14th October at 12 noon. This is the 15th year of this event and we are expecting up to 3,000 participants. We are asking everybody taking part to be in the University by 10.30am for ease of parking etc.

Limerick Athletic Club which has been in existence since 1877 has organised and hosted the Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon since 1988. From humble beginnings with less than 400 participants, it has grown with almost 4,000 entries for the 2009 event.

Now an established race on the athletics calender, it is open to women of all fitness levels, from wheelchair athletes, walkers and joggers to elite athletes. The race itself is 8km and starts and finishes on the grounds of the University of Limerick. This event has become a household event for Women from the Mid West and indeed from all over Ireland who walk or run and in the process raise valuable funding for charities. We will also have over 100 men who dress in drag and we have a special prize category for them.

We will have up to 80 steward’s on duty and a good number of these will be from Athletic clubs from Limerick, North Cork and Clare. The race last year was won by Rosemary Ryan from Dooneen Athletic Club and she will start this year as one of the favourites.

We will be taking entries on Monday 8th to Friday 12th from 10.30am to 4.30pm, at the Pery Hotel, Glentworth St, Limerick/ Saturday 13th at the University of Limerik, Arena Indoor track from 1.00pm to 5.00pm/ Sunday 14th at the University of Limerick, Arena Indoor track from 8.30am to 11.00am.
