John Byrne of Mayo Ac will be representing Ireland in the World 50km trophy final in Bordighera Italy this Saturday 20th October.
In April John finished 33rd in the IAU World 100k championships held near Milan. This time he represents Ireland in the IAU World 50k Trophy. The event “50Km Lungo il mare” takes place in Vallecrosia and Bordighera, two towns in the Province of Imperia in the region of Liguria, northwest Italy.
A totally flat course and mild temperatures will hopefully benefit the Mayo man who got the qualifying time when winning the national 50km Irish title in Donadea ahead of a top class field from ultra running by clocking 3.07.54 . Byrne is showing good form after only recently winning a bronze medal in the M35 National Half marathon in a fast 71:05. Best of luck to John this weekend.
