Derval O’ Rourke, in association with Irish Hurdlers, will host a Hurdles Workshop in the excellent facilities in DCU this Saturday. This will be a unique opportunity to get insights from a world class hurdler who has won gold, silver and bronze medals at major championships while still being based in Ireland. The workshop is free but bookings are advised to ensure your place.
Derval has always shown remarkable consistency in delivering her best seasonal performance in the majors and the workshops will look at the key factors in this. Derval’s coach, Terri Cahill, will deliver a workshop on how she approaches the planning and execution of Derval’s training that enables Derval to peak when it matters. Terri will also conduct a practical workshop on drills, sprinting and hurdling.
Derval’s strength coach, Martina McCarthy, will deliver a workshop on strength and a key point being emphasized will be that to run fast you need to be strong. Martina is an Olympian herself from Sydney 2000 and was also a strength coach with Team Ireland in London 2012. This will be a mixture of theory and practice.
Finally Derval will speak about the journey she has taken to get her where she is now. She will outline how it’s never an overnight transformation and how it requires patient and persistent commitment over many, many years but with glorious rewards.
