John Coghlan retained his Tom Brennan trophy as he outsprinted Tomas Fitzpatrick after a great battle in the Phoenix Park to-day.
Maria McCambridge lead the womens race all the way to win from Fiona Roche.
Tomas Fitzpatrick won this race in 2011 and set about regaining the trophy as he pushed it along from the front. Despite a few surges he never disposed of Coghlan’s challenge and the MSB man has the best sprint over the last 200 metres to win in 14m34s just one second outside the course record he set last year.
Maria McCambridge having her first race since her victory in the Dublin Marathon was always ahead in the womens race and she had four seconds to spare on Raheny’s Fiona Roche.
