Paralympic Athletics: National Throws Coach

Paralympics Ireland in association with Paralympic Athletics Ireland (PAI) is seeking to appoint a National Throws Coach.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering, monitoring and evaluating coaching programmes for PAI panel athletes at PAI training camps and competitions. This includes liaising with the Head of Paralympic Athletics (HPA) in relation to the development of coaching plans for all PAI events and leading the coaching team at such events.

Subject to performance and the availability of accreditation, the position holder will have the opportunity to be a member of the Irish Paralympic Athletics Team at major championships including the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016.

The National Throws Coach will report to the Head of Paralympic Athletics and among the key tasks
will be required to:

• Lead all training sessions at and work with the HPA on the development of coaching plans for all PAI calendar events including camps and competitions in Ireland and overseas as requested by the HPA.

• Work with the HPA on the development of coach education programmes for personal coaches as required.

• Provide the correct structures and supports for athletes to enable them to compete at the highest possible level.

• Work with the HPA and Sport Science and Medicine team in monitoring the athletes’ physical and mental condition leading in to competition.

• Liaise with the athletes’ personal coaches to ensure a consistent level of support throughout the athletes’ entire programme.

Applicants should have:

 Level 2 Athletics Ireland coaching qualification or equivalent from IAAF affiliate overseas
 Experience of leading athletics coach education programmes
 Recent track record of working at elite level with athletes and squads
 Experience as a lead coach with a National Athletics Team
 Demonstrable ability to work as part of a team.
 Excellent communication skills including negotiation skills.
 Ability to be adaptable and to perform in a pressurised setting.
 A clear understanding and commitment to Anti-Doping in sport.
 Sufficient time to carry out the role effectively.

Salary: €10,000 per annum on the basis of an agreed work programme.
Contract type: Consultant contract on a fixed term basis until Dec 31st 2013 with the potential for renewal on an annual basis subject to performance and investment from the Irish Sports Council through the Paralympics Ireland Road to Rio performance plan.
The position holder will not be a direct employee of Paralympics Ireland.

Interviews for this position will take place on the 27th February 2013 and the position will have a start date of the 9th March to enable the position holder to travel with the squad to an international training camp for 14 days.
