The annual SIAB Schools’ Cross Country International took place in Dinefwr Park in Wales on the 23rd March.
The event brought together the best young athletes from the recent schools’ championships which have been taking place over the past few weeks. The leading runners from the AVIVA All-Ireland Schools’ Championships held in Jordanstown headed to Wales to represent the Irish Schools’ Teams at Intermediate and Junior level.
The Junior boys team of Alan Monahan (St Patrick’s Classical School), Christy Conlon (Rathmore Grammar School), Eoin Looney (St Joseph’s Secondary School), Kevin McGrath(St Patrick’s Classical School), Oisin O’Gibne (The Grammar School), Ruairi Casey (Colaiste Daibheid), Eoin McCann (Rathmore Grammar School) and Cormac Dalton (St Joseph’s Secondary School) were the most successful team of the Irish contingent securing the silver medal position.
The Junior girls team placed third, just behind England and Scotland while both the Inter Boys and Girls teams placed fourth.
