Woodie’s DIY Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 3
Sarah Lavin completes hat-trick of victories
The second weekend of the Woodie’s DIY Juvenile Indoor Championships were held at the magnificent indoor arena in Magherafelt, the first time these championships have been staged at the venue.
The high quality of performance at last week’s championships in Nenagh was continued, and exciting finishes were again the order of the day.
Sarah Lavin (Emerald A.C.) was again in top form to win the under 16 200m in 25.35, adding to the wins she recorded last week in the 60m and 60m hurdles.
Oliver Back, a Northern Ireland athlete based in Liverpool, won the under 19 200m in 22.78 to add to last week’s 60m win.
Frances Egan (St. Abban’s A.C.) was another to make it an under 19 double when he won the long jump with 6.57m to add to his triple jump win of last week.
The same events featured in Nicola Power’s (Ferrybank A.C.) under 19 double when she won the long jump with 5.43m to add to her triple jump win.
On the track Sinead Denny (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) won the under 19 800m in 2:23.33 to add to her 400m win of last week.
Claire Mooney (Naas A.C.) added the under 18 200m in 26.05, to last week’s 300m win.
Joanna Mills (Ballymena & Antrim A.C.) had an under 17 double, winning the 200m in 25.20 and the long jump with 5.67m.
Stuart Connor (St. Michael’s Enniskillen A.C.) completed a 60m/200m double when he won the under 17 200m in 22.91
Ruairi Finnegan (Letterkenny A.C.) won the under 16 800m in 2:04.49 after winning the 1,500m last week.
Amy O’Donoghue (Emerald A.C.) completed the same age group double when she won the 800m in 2:23.46.
Events where the result was reversed from last week included the under 18 200m where Lorcan O’Cathain (Roscommon A.C) turned the tables on Mark Kavanagh (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) to win in 22.48. Kavanagh won the 60m last week.
Last week’s under 17 1,500m winner Dean Cronin (Blarney Inniscarra A.C.) had to settle for second in the 800m when Mark English (Letterkenny A.C.) won a closely fought finish in 1:57.80, with Cronin second in 1:57.89.
Closest finish of the day came in the under 15 1,000m walk where Michelle Beirne Mohill A.C.) dead-heated with Deena Sadik (Westport A.C.) in a time of 5:00.61.
