Almost 4000 Take Part In Grant Thornton 5k

A record 3,856 runners making up 964 teams took part in the third annual Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge this evening in the Dublin Docklands. The event welcomed both beginners and seasoned runners including event Ambassador Catherina McKiernan.

Team Trophies were presented for the top five teams in the male, female and mixed categories. This is a team event with four participants per team combining to determine the winner. All entrants received a souvenir technical t-shirt and a goody bag. The winner of the mixed category was Goodbody Stockbrokers, the female winners were Certus and the male winners were Davy. The first male across the line was Conor Dooney in 15.06, while event ambassador Catherina McKiernan took the female honours in a time of 17.03

The quickest team overall was the Defence Forces with a combined time of 1.03.57, the team was made up of Patrick Roche, Mark Conway, Patrick Byrne and Noel Kelly. 

Grant Thornton had the largest turnout with 40 teams while retailers Dunnes Stores entered 23 teams, HSBC had 14 and AON 12 teams tonight. New Health Minister Leo Varadkar also ran with 2 teams under the name Healthy Ireland reflecting the Department’s new strategy.

Event Ambassador, Olympian and former London Marathon winner Catherina McKiernan commented on race, “It was a fantastic sight to see so many people out running and enjoying themselves. The team element adds a sense of fun and camaraderie amongst work colleagues.”

It was an impressive sight to see such large numbers come out and participate in a team event signifying that Dublin’s business running community can continue to rise to the challenge.”
