An evening with Tom Barr and research seminar

POSTED:

An evening with Tom Barr

There will be two hurdles related seminars/workshops before the end of 2015. The first is ‘An evening with Tom Barr.’ Tom has performed at the very highest level this year, winning his first global title at the World University Games, competing in Diamond League races, just missing out on a place in the final at the World Championships in Beijing and finishing the year ranked 14th in the world with a time of 48.65 seconds.

But it’s only 5 years since he arrived in Limerick with a personal best of 56.47s in the 400m Hurdles and 1.83m in the High Jump. Find out about his journey so far and his future plans. At the end of the session with Tom, there’ll be a short session on self-reflection for both coaches and athletes. This session will be in Kilmurry Hall at the University of Limerick at 7pm on Saturday November 7th.

Sprinting research seminar

The second session in the series will be in Sports Campus Ireland, Blanchardstown, Dublin at 12 noon on Sunday December 13th (exact venue/room TBC). This is a research seminar looking at technique development in sprinting. The research findings will be presented by Niamh Whelan (PhD student) and her supervisor Prof Drew Harrison from the University of Limerick and will examine correct muscle activation and movement patterns for sprint performance.

While both of these sessions are being run as part of the 'hurdles series', they are open to athletes and coaches of all athletic disciplines. Please let me know if you intend being at either of these sessions. I can be contacted via email hayley.harrison@coachingireland.com or by text on 087 3724151. There will be a nominal charge of €5 per person for each.
