Barr and Healy star on good day at AAI Games and Combined Events

Thomas Barr (Ferrybank) had a facile win in the 400m hurdles in 51.23 on a day of good performances at the Irish Life Health AAI Games in Morton Stadium today (May 27).

Phil Healy (Bandon) completed another excellent double in the 100m and 200m. Unfortunately there wasn’t a legal wind with 11.34 (+2.5) and 23.09 (+3.0). It only seems a matter of time and favourable wind conditions before both records fall (11.40 for the 100m and 23.02 for the 200m). Her sister Joan set a pb of 11.57 (+1.2) in the second race.
The women’s 400m saw a world U20 A standard for Davicia Patterson (Beechmount Harriers) with 53.64 and Ciara Deely (Kilkenny City Harriers) in second getting her second B standard in 54.68. The IAAF World U20 Championships takes place in Tampere, Finland in July.
The women’s 100m hurdles saw Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) edge Sarah Lavin (UCD) in 13.58 to 13.63.
David McDonald (Menapians) had a good tailwind of +3.0 to clock a good time of 20.93 in the 200m and came back to win the 400m in 48.58.
Shane Howard (Bandon) had a good win in the men’s long jump with a best of 7.42m (+2.0).
Alex Wright (Leevale) won the men’s 5,000m walk in 19:25.51.
Lystus Ebosele (DMP AC) scored a throws double winning the shot put with a best of 11.72m and the discus with 38.65m.
Shane Aston (Trim AC) and Amy McTeggart (Boyne AC) defended their respective multi-event titles over the course of the two days of the Irish Life Health Combined Events.
Aston won with a good total of 6,776 points with good competitive scores in the 100m (11.15), long jump (6.59m), high jump (1.93m), 110 hurdles (15.15) and javelin (52.86m). Brian Lynch (Lusk) was on 4,657 points.
Tadgh Murtagh (Kildare AC) won the junior men’s title with 5,516 points with Brian Lynch (Old Abbey) winning the youth title with 6,411 points.
Amy McTeggart (Boyne) tallied 4,706 points to defend her senior women’s heptathlon crown ahead of Laura Frey (Lagan Valley) on 4,419 points and Karen Dunne (Bohermeen) on 3,734 points.
Lara O’Byrne (Donore Harriers) won the junior women’s with 4,541 points while Ella Duane (Naas) won the youth title with 4,014 points.
Ava Rochford (Ennis Track) had a championship best performance to win the U14 girls’ combined events with a score of 3,003 points.
