Barr Beats Reigning World  Champion 

Thomas Barr (Ferrybank AC) has beaten reigning World 400m Hurdles Champion Jehue Gordon of Trinidad at Morton Games, Santry tonight setting a new  stadium record of 48.94. Gordon crossed the line in 49.48 with Mahau Suguimati  of Brazil third in 49.94.

English Sets Stadium Record

At the same meet Donegal’s Mark English  (UCD AC) set a stadium record of 1.45.30 when winning the 800m in convincing style from Martin Ryan of USA in 1.45.79 and Ryan Gregson of Australia  was third in 1.46.27.

Paul Robinson (St Coca’s) finished fourth in 1:46.40.  While World Junior bound athlete Karl Griffin (UCD) had a breakthrough with a PB of 1:47.44 with the added bonus of being inside the European qualification standard.

The Morton Mile

The Morton Men’s Mile was won by Will Leer of USA who broke the old stadium record of 3:53.8 running 3.51.82 with Patrick Casey (USA) second in 3:52.62 and Cory Leslie (USA) third in 3:53.44.

Donore Harrier’s John Travers went under four minutes for the mile for the first time with 3:55.44 finishing in sixth place. Traver’s 1500m split of 3:37.27 qualified him for the European Championships (3:39.30). Ciaran O’Lionaird who had done most of the front running faded to 13th place with a time of 4.00.88.

Results

Proper Secures European Qualification

Elsewhere Kelly Proper (Ferrybank AC) ran 23.16 in the 200m in Rhede in Germany tonight. This time moves her to 2nd on Irish all-time list and is inside that all important European Track and Field Championships Standard of 23.35.
