Four Olympians in Irish Team for
Cardiff Indoor International this Weekend
19 January 2005
A grand total of four Olympians
lead a strong Irish team for this Saturday's Indoor International
match between Ireland, England and Wales in Cardiff.
High Jumper Adrian O'Dwyer, hurdler Derval O'Rourke and 200m
National record holder Paul Brizzel will all be hoping to put in
strong early season performances which should see them selected for
the European Indoor Championships in Madrid in March. A lot of
interest will also surround the rejuvenated Emily Maher who ran a
personal best of 7.45 secs for 60m in Loughborough last weekend.
World indoor relay medallist David McCarthy gains the elusive spot
in the 400m while a lot will be expected of UCD's Deirdre Ryan who
added 2cm to her own National High Jump record at the AAI Games in
Nenagh on Sunday with a leap of 1.88m.

Meanwhile on Sunday, also in Cardiff, Maria McCambridge leads the
Irish Cross Country teams for the annual Celtic International CC
match. Jolene Byrne, who was the top Irish finisher in the recent
Stormont International CC, joins McCambridge in what is the
strongest of all the Irish teams.
Emerging top class junior Danny Darcy leads the junior mens team and
Linda Byrne does likewise for the junior women.
