Championship Best Performances Set by Ryan & Meredith

At the GloHealth National Juvenile Combined Events Championships & Childrens Games in Tullamore there was tremendous competition with athletes as young as U9 competing in running, throwing and jumping events. Performances of the day in the combined events championships came from Sophie Meredith (St Mary’s Limerick AC), David Ryan (Moycarkey & Coolcroo AC) and Katherine O'Connor (St Gerards Dundalk).

Ryan achieved a point’s total of 3,697 in the U16 category as Meredith scored 3,462 in the U15 category; both totals were new championship best performances. Katherine O’Connor impressively won the girl’s U16 title with a score of 3,512 points, the score by O'Connor was a new CBP breaking the old mark of 3,436 points which was held by Elizabeth Morland. Joseph McEvoy (Nenagh Olympic) reigned supreme in the boy’s U15 event with a score of 3,146 points. Tara Meier (Boyne AC) and Daniel Hurley (Old Abbey AC) won the U14 national titles with scores of 2,773 and 2,610 respectively.

Future Stars

Ireland’s next generation of athletics stars contested the children’s games as U9-U11 athletes battled it out in pairs in the sprint, middle distance, long jump, relays and turbo javelin events.
