Exciting Finish to GloHealth Juvenile Champs

Tullamore Harriers Stadium hosted the National Juvenile Relay and B Championships on Saturday the 18th of July. The exciting day of track and field action kicked off at 10am while the relay action started at 11:30. The day had many fantastic performances from clubs in the relay championships as well as many championship bests set in the B Championships.

Rapid Relay Success

Galway City Harriers were in top form at the national relays today claiming both the U18 and U19 boy’s 4x100m relay titles. There was an exciting race in the U19 boy’s 4x400m as Tallaght AC won the title in a time of 3.30.41. Raheny Shamrock AC were also on the double as they won the girl’s U18 4x100m and 4x400m national titles.

Dundrum South Dublin took first place in the U19 girls 4X100m and silver in the U18 girls 4x400m setting a fast time of 4:08.58. Later in the day, the club (3:33.34) claimed gold in a hard fought boys u18 4x400 where they were pushed to the limit by Leevale A.C.(3:33.68).

Ballymena & Antrim AC (47.87) won the U15 boys 4x100, finishing just ahead of Greystones AC (48.6). In the U17 boys 4x100m, a close battle between Menapians A.C and Newbridge took place, Menapians finished first in 44.77 which was .14s ahead of Newbridge. Ennis Track stormed to victory in the U16 boy’s contest to win the title in a time of 46.34 seconds as Galway City Harriers dominated the girl’s U16 contest winning the title in emphatic fashion in a time of 50.29.

National B Championships

Emma Moore Kelly (Clonmel AC) won a quick 100m race in the girls U16 category. Moore-Kelly stormed to victory in 12.86s to beat the previous championship best of 13.45. Another U16 championship record was broken in the men's U16 100m race as Dave McInerney topped quick competition to finish in 11.68s, beating the previous record of 12.02s. There was a record breaking run by Danika Gilshinan (Menapians AC) in the U13 girl's 600m event. Gilshinan ran a time of 1.42.04 surpassing the old record of 1.44.00 which had stood since 2006.

In the younger age groups, U12 sprinter Cian Smith produced a stand out performance to finish in 8.6 seconds and set a new championship record. In the U13 girls, Sophie Mullally set a new 80m record of 11.13s.

Eoin O'Connor (Kildare AC) held a commanding lead throughout the Boys U16 800m race and won in an impressive time of 2:08.49. In the field events, Martin Kehoe (Carrick on Suir) produced an exceptional final jump of 5m42 to ensure top spot on the podium as well as a new championship best
