Irish Junior Men Victorious in Belgium

8 November 2004

Mark Christie lead the Irish squad to an emphatic victory in the junior international cross country in Ghent on Sunday and boosted the team's prospects for the forthcoming European championships in December in Helsingdorf, Germany.

After a tough battle with Danny Darcy, who made such an outstanding breakthrough on the track during the summer, Christie emerged victorious. Darcy was a close 2nd and the team's strength was emphasised with Joe Sweeney in 4th and Jamie McCarthy 5th. Andrew Ledwith completed the team score in 10th place.

The women's race saw Maria McCambridge finish in 3rd place having been narrowly edged out for 2nd. Fionnuala Britton also ran well for 9th position.
