GloHealth Juvenile Championships Take 3
Over 600 young athletes (U13-U19) from all across the country are set to compete on day three of the GloHealth National Juvenile Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event takes place in AIT International Arena, Athlone this Saturday, 28th of March.

200m
2015 National Junior 200m champion Sean Lawlor (Donore Harriers AC) lines up in the U19 boy’s 200m where he can expect tough competition from Tallaght AC duo Eoin Doherty and Joseph Ojemumi. Sinead Treacy (Craughwell AC) will start as favourite in the girl’s U19 contest.
The girl’s U18 200m is set to be one of the closest races of the day with Phoebe Murphy (Ferrybank AC), Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC), Aishling Forkan (Swinford AC) and Ara Freeman (Greystones & District AC) all in the line-up.
Hurdles & Long Jump
The other sprint event on day three of the programme is the 60m Hurdles with a number of mouth-watering clashes to look out for. Molly Scott (St Laurence O’Toole AC) and Ciara Neville (Emerald AC) who have both been in great form this season will renew rivalry once again in the U17 60m hurdles. Multi-eventer Daniel Ryan (Moycarkee AC) will focus in on two events this weekend as he goes in the hurdles and long jump. Another athlete gunning for double success is fellow multi-eventer Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown AC) as she contests the U18 hurdles and long jump.
800m & Triple Jump
Cian McBride (North Sligo AC) is the fastest on paper this season in the U19 800m with his time of 1.53.56. However championship racing isn’t all about fast times and with the likes of 1.500m silver medallist Pierre Murchan (Celtic DCH) in the field an exciting race is expected. After impressively winning the 1,500m title Louise Shanahan (Leevale AC) will start as favourite in the U19 800m event.
Jordan Hoang (Tullamore Harriers AC) has jumped a massive 13.87m this season which ranks him fifth on the 2015 Irish senior indoor triple jump rankings. The Irish Youth record of 14.01m is a distinct possibility if all goes right for Hoang on Saturday. Fiona O’Shea (Dooneen AC) is the standout name in the girl’s U19 triple jump having jumped 11.60m already this season.
