Finals galore for young Irish athletes

The Irish athletics team have gotten off to a flying start at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia with all six Irish athletes so far making their respective finals.

Yesterday Ciara Neville (Emerald) sped to heat (11.90) and semi-final (11.92) victories in the 100m while Kevin McGrath (Bohermeen) comfortablly qualified for the 1500m final with a third place finish in 4:06.2. Daniel Ryan (Moycarkey Coolcroo) and Ryan Carthy Walsh (Adamstown AC) were equally impressive in the field. Ryan qualified for the long jump final leaping out to 6.75m while Carthy Walsh cleared 1.95m to make the high jump final.

This morning Molly Scott (St Laurence O'Toole) advanced to the final of the 100m hurdles final with a second place finish in 13.81 seconds - a new personal best. Sommer Lecky (Finn Valley) also had a good morning in the high jump clearing 1.72m to qualify for the final

Afternoon action

Ciara Neville is set to go in the 100m final this afternoon at 2:45pm Irish time. Tbilisi time is three hours ahead. The Emerald star is the fastest on personal bests going into the final and will be in the hunt for a medal. Finn Valley's  Arlene Crossan and Aaron McGlynn are also in action this afternoon in the long jump and 800m respectively. There should be a live stream link here
