GV Ryan Meet takes centre stage - Saturday 11th July

POSTED:

The GV Ryan Meet, which is hosted by Crusaders Ac in association with The Irish Milers Club (IMC)  takes place Saturday afternoon, July 11th in Morton Stadium.

At the le Cheile/IMC meet last month an astonishing 36 % of middle distance athletes achieved pbs. We expect a similar percentage at this meet and here’s why…..

This famous meet honours two of Ireland’s best ever Middle Distance athletes. Attracting entries from overseas athletes, we expect their involvement to drive on the performance of our home based athletes and….  You’ve guessed it, lead to pbs.

The Ron Delany 1500m

Crusaders AC are sponsoring the Ron Delany 1500m race. Ron Delany, a Crusader and one of Ireland's greatest ever athletes. Ron is the 1956 1500m Olympic Champion.

And so for the Ron Delany 1500m race there are already 5 athletes entered with sub 3.50 pbs .

The leading home athlete is International John Coghlan  (pictured) with a 3.4297 pb. Joining him will be Emmet Dunleavy and William Maunsell with 3.47 pbs. A total of three British Milers Club ( BMC)  athletes have also entered the 1500m. Jack Hallas with a 3.4478 pb, Michael Salter with a 3.4515 and Alex Brecker 3.48.

The Noel Carrol 800m

Noel was one of the best 800m specialists in Ireland and won 3 European Indoor titles. In later life he was coach to David Matthews and James Nolan. Sponsored by Noel’s club Civil Service Harriers and now in its 5th year, this race has proved to be one of the fastest 800m races in Ireland and was won last year in an IMC record of 1.4775

With Irish 800m men’s running making strides forward, this one is lining up to be an equally enthralling and fast  800m similar to that witnessed in the IMC involved meets at Belfast (800m finish , pictured) and Le Cheile. There are already have six sub 1.50 athletes entered. On the home front we have Eoin Everard, Kieran Kelly, Mark Hoy, Joe Warne and Dean Cronin entered. Also entered is New Zealand athlete Ben Anderson.  Mouth watering stuff……

Internation Athletes to compete for Womens title

The women 1500m features two of Irelands brightest young stars who have had such wonderful battles this year. Amy O’Donogue (pictured winning in Belfast)and Emma Mitchell look set for yet another intriguing tussle but this time will be joined by Katy Kirk  moving up a distance.  They will face a very promising young UK athlete with a bright future. Georgina Outten who represented and won u/20  GB team gold at the recent Euro XC championships will provide our home stars with vital opposition.

The women’s 800m has attracted two quality overseas athletes in USA’s Kirsten Findley and the BMC’s Gemma Kersey. Leading the Irish charge will be Deirdre Doyle who ran a superb 2.08:23 earlier this year along with the very much in form Kelly Neely.
