Irish Sport Organisers nominated for the European Athletics Board

Two leading Irish Sport organisers have been nominated for key roles within the European Athletics Board.

Federational Development Commission Nomination

Nick Davis has been nominated to become a member of the Member Federation Development Commission for the period 2015 to 2019 as part of the European Athletics Federation. The role would consist of working as part of the consulting body to the Executive Board and Council to assist in the analysing the development of the Member Federations and their capability to lead the sport in their countries.

The Commission work to make recommendations and proposals ensuring that current and planned activities are consistent with the European Athletics strategy, effective and in line with best practice for the organisation. The commission also liaise with the other European Athletics commissions to ensure that all decisions made are agreed upon throughout the organisation. As part of the role given to the commission they must undertake activities specifically requested by the Executive Board or the Council.

Developing athletic national governing bodies and safeguarding the relationships with partners are main aims within the European Athletics Commission. Davis would serve as part of the commission from the date of appointment in 2015 until the European Athletics Congress in April 2019 should he be elected.

Event & Competition Commission Nomination

Pierce O’Callaghan has been nominated to become a member of the Event & Competition Commission for the period 2015 to 2019. The role would work as part of European Athletics as the consulting body for competitions and events. The commission oversee existing competition structures as well as analysing event calendar organisation.

Ensuring decisions made by member federations is in line with strategy an important function of the commission which works to control all event proceedings ran throughout the member Federations. Creating a connection for communication between event and meeting organisation, overseeing athlete representatives and controlling the overall running of the European Athletics Events and Competitions are some of the main tasks involved in the role.

O’Callaghan would also serve from date of appointment in 2015 until the European Athletics Congress in April 2019 should he be elected.
