Wednesday was a a trifecta of disaster, it began with Johns flight being cancelled due an industrial dispute between French Air traffic controllers and the state. The dispute was cause initially by lack of man power in the break room. The fact that his flight had been cancelled overshadowed the fact that he forgot his passport!!! What would J think? He'd Probably blame it on the GAA:)

Heavy Showers

The second blow was dealt to the group in the form of heavy showers. 33 minutes into the easy run which we took part in after Tuesday's workout, the heavens opened. William was quoted as saying "we've been wet before, but not this wet". The bad weather forced the athletes indoors and with that a sense of boredom prevailed over Aldeia De Falesia. In the evening it was gym time for our final S&C session, dusky completed by all.

Flying to Knock

The third and most significant development in our day came at dinner time. Clodagh's steak was ruined as Steve announced that the Cork flight had been cancelled due to the aforementioned strike of the French and the Dublin flight was also in danger of being cancelled. Eventually news broke that the Dublin flight, which was that of stars such as Kevin, Hope and Jack, was flying. The same could not be said for the Cork flight (Cork bias, Cypan 2002. Never forget) we were instead flying to Knock. Where's Knock? Ask your nan!!!

The day ahead for the athletes was to prove eventful, the flight departed at 6:45 AM, so it was an early start for the southern contingent. Rising at 3:30 am the weary runners struggled to Faro airport and finally arrived in Knock at 11am. After a quick visit to the religious sites of the area to curry favour with the big man, we set off on our 4.5 hours bus journey to Cork. An eventful 24 hours to say the least but an even better 10 days. Thank you Athletics Ireland for a brilliant camp!!!
