Irish Junior Men Take European Cross Country Silver in Germany

12 December 2004

The Irish Junior Men’s Cross Country squad ensured the year ended on a high note for Irish Athletics by taking silver medals in the team event with a stunning performance at today's European Cross Country Championships in Seebad Heringsdorf, Germany.

Led home by the precociously talented Mark Christie in 5th place, he was ably supported by Andrew Ledwith 7th, Danny Darcy 11th and Jamie McCarthy in 31st, to split Russia and Britain in the team results.

Jolene Byrne led home the senior women in 15th position ahead of the recently ill Maria McCambridge while National Intercounties Champion Vinny Mulvey was first home of the senior men.
