Ras na hEireann Bound Kim Smith Runs 14:50 Indoors

22 February 2005

New Zealander and 2005 Ras na hEireann entrant Kim Smith ran nearly 20 seconds faster than her outdoor PR of 15:09 with a 14:50 clocking at Boston University. Running on her own she destroyed the entire field by nearly two minutes.

Ras na hEireann has a tradition of recruiting stars just before they explode onto the world scene. Smith is definitely on track to keep this tradition alive as she runs the 2005 Ras na hEireann in her final preparations for the upcoming world cross country championships.

Top competitor to run against Smith will be Justyna Lesman of Poland who has a 3K best time of 8:52 and has also run 4:07 for 1500M. Lesman is also a Polish national champion over 1500M. Additionally, the U.S. will have three top class athletes competing in this year's Ras.

Ras na hEireann will take place in Termonfechin three miles east of Drogheda on February 27th, 2005.
