Koroush Foroughi Wins Senior Men’s Decathlon Title

POSTED:

On the domestic front the GloHealth National Combined Event Championships took place in Templemore Stadium on the 23rd and 24th of May. The event consisted of pentathlon, heptathlon as well as decathlon competitions for male and female competitors ranging from youth to master age group.

Close Battle Between Foroughi & Bowler

After a close battle with Michael Bowler (Kilkenny City Harriers AC), Kourosh Foroughi (Star of the Sea AC) won the senior men’s decathlon title with a score of 6,227 points. Standout performances in the high jump (2.03m) as well as the 110m H (15.2s) events ensured Foroughi took top place in the senior category. Quick times in the 100m (11.46s) and 400m (51.91s) events from Michael Bowler meant that the decathlon remained close up to the final event where Foroughi hung on for the victory. Following an encouraging first day of competition, Shane Aston (Trim AC) clipped the second last hurdle in the 110m H event which put an end to his title hopes.

Karen Dunne (Bohermeen AC) was crowned the senior women’s heptathlon champion after accumulating a score of 3,913 points excelling in the 200 and 800m events. McTeggart (Boyne AC) won the junior women’s title with a score of 4,039 points; impressive performances came in the 100mH along with the High Jump events.

Debut for Olusa

Rolous Olusa (Donore Harriers AC) made his debut in the decathlon over the weekend, winning the junior men’s title with a score of 5,130. Olusa impressed from the start with a sub 12 second run in the 100m event. A discus throw of 30.43m along with 110mH time of 15.7s saw the athlete make an excellent start to competing in the Decathlon event.

Connolly Claims Youth Title

The GloHealth Combined Events Championship was hosting its first male decathlon event at youth level. Thomas Connolly (Le Cheile AC) claimed the men’s youth title with a score of 4,850 points. Highlights of Connolly’s performance came in the 100m (11.89s), 110mH (15.9s) and long jump (6.09m) events.

After a fantastic start on the first day of the female youth heptathlon, Shannon Sheehy (Cushinstown A.C) was forced to retire from the event due to a slight injury niggle. Laura Quigley (Celbridge AC) continued on to win the event with a score of 3,255 points, having produced good performances in the 200m as well as the long jump events.
