Level 2 Coaching Course Kicks Off In Athlone

The Level 2 course kicked off last Saturday in AIT. This was the first weekend in the course which will continue with two further weekends in April.  There were 65 coaches attending from clubs around the country.  The course consists of four separate streams running concurrently.  These cover throws, jumps, endurance and sprints/hurdles.  There are a small number of modules that are common to all sections and these are interspersed with the event specific elements throughout the course.

The course gives participants ample opportunity to practice their coaching skills as they instruct their peers on relevant tasks.  The goal of the course is to assist coaches achieve the knowledge required to maximise the potential of their athletes.  The Level 2 is aimed at coaches who are preparing athletes for competition in a performance environment.  The emphasis is on practical use of the techniques, skills and theories involved while reflecting on their effectiveness. They are facilitated in this task by over 20 tutors who bring specific expertise to each area.

 

The past weekend included topics such as plyometrics, general conditioning, psychological preparation along with separate modules on shot put, triple jump, race walking and speed concepts.  It passed very successfully and the next session commences on April 8th.
