Little Athletes Jump for Joy!

POSTED:

Irish dried fruit and nuts expert Forest Feast today announced its continued sponsorship of the Forest Feast Little Athletics programme, in partnership with Athletics Ireland.

The Forest Feast Little Athletics programme introduces young children (5-10 years) to grassroots athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment. It focuses on the use of games to develop fitness whilst enhancing agility, co-ordination and balance - all fundamental to longer term physical athletic development.

The announcement comes at a time when Athletics Ireland membership continues to grow reaching a record number of 54,000 members with 21 new clubs formed in 2014. Through the successful partnership with Forest Feast, the Little Athletics programme is delivered in athletics clubs nationwide by Athletics Ireland’s Regional Development Officers and Athletics Leaders.

Greystones Forest Feast Little Athletics Group

Irish International Long Jumpers Adam McMullen and Kelly Proper and local kids from the Forest Feast Little Athletics group in Greystones enjoyed an afternoon of activities at today’s announcement.

Speaking at the event Adam said, “The Forest Feast Little Athletics programme is brilliant - it encourages young kids to get active and more importantly have fun.  It is a great way for kids to develop their athletic ability and experience a whole range of athletics events.”

Support At Grassroots Level

Speaking about Forest Feast’s continued support for Little Athletics, Christine Whelan, Forest Feast Field Sales Manager said: “Forest Feast is delighted to announce the continued support of Athletics Ireland’s Little Athletics programme for a second year. The Forest Feast Little Athletics clubs are a great way for children to make new friends and get involved with sports at grassroots level.

“At Forest Feast our range of dried fruit and nut products have been developed to provide families with healthy snacking options suitable for all ages. We believe encouraging children to eat healthily at a young age, while teaching them the importance of leading an active lifestyle is pivotal for their development and instills healthy habits that will be carried through to adulthood.

“The initiative allows children of a young age to try various different sporting activities while receiving professional instruction from Athletics Ireland. The children participating in Little Athletics associate fitness with fun which is hugely positive,” continued Ms Whelan.

Jamborees

In 2014, the Forest Feast Little Athletics featured four regional Jamborees in Dublin, Athlone, Wicklow and Tipperary which brought together various clubs to participate in fun challenges and group activities. The highly popular jamborees will be rolled out again this year with the first one set for Bray in Co. Wicklow in early June.
