Master Champs Ends 2014 GloHealth Track and Field Season

The GloHealth Master Track and Field Championships took place in Tullamore Harriers Stadium on Sunday, 10th of August. It was the final day of competition in what has been a hectic summer of track and field action.

In the M1 sprint events Kevin Cogley (Menapians AC) dominated the age category winning the 100m in a time of 11.65 and the 200m in a time of 23.45. In the M3 400m there was a great race between Kevin McGlone (Sligo AC) and Stuart McClean (Rathfarnham WSAF). McGlone came out on top with a winning time of 56.47 just ahead of Mclean in second with a time of 56.86.

Michaela Marnell (Blackrock AC) – M1 and Moira Peppard (Trim AC) – M4 both claimed impressive doubles over 100m and 200m in their respective age categories. Geraldine Finegan (Dunleer AC) was in superb form as she won the M3 200m (29.55) and 400m (67.21) national titles 

Derry City Track Club team mates Tim Shiels and Adrian Boyle battled it out in the M1 800m. Shiels won the title in a time of 2.03.06 with Boyle second in a time of 2.03.81. Ciaran Doherty (Letterkenny AC) had over 30 second to spare as he won the 5,000m in a time of 14.56.94.

Elizabeth Egan (Bree AC) won the women’s 3,000m in a time of 10.15.65

Relays

The relays as always provided tremendous excitement with Templemore AC powering to victory in the men’s 4x100m in a time of 45.50. Gneeveguilla's AC won the ladies equivalent in a time of 57.25, the victory was all the more impressive when you consider it was the third time in a row the Gneeveguilla’s team have won the national title.

Elanine Cronin (M1) and Annette O’Brien (M2) both of Gneeveguilla won the national long jump titles in their respective age categories. Aidan Gillespie (Rosses AC) was a clear winner of the M2 long jump with a clearance of 5.80m.

Reigning national senior champion Sean Breathnach (Galway City Harriers AC) as expected won the Shot Putt and the 56IB for distance national titles.
