Park life once more for National 10k

It promises to be another exciting day in the Phoenix Park tomorrow at the Great Ireland Run with Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole) bidding to retain her national 10k title and outright victory.

Ireland take on an England team with McCormack joined on the women’s team by Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle & District AC), Laura O’Shaughnessy (DSD AC) and Catherine Whoriskey (City of Derry AC Spartans). Gemma Steel will be the leading England athlete as the Irish team also compete to get on the national podium.  Shaughnessy and Whoriskey will be looking to move up on to the podium having finished 5th and 7th last year.

The Irish men’s team consists of Mark Christie (Mullingar Harriers), Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock), Liam Brady (Tullamore Harriers) and Kevin Dooney (Raheny Shamrock). Clohisey will be looking to retain his national title with the field also listing Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers) and last year’s silver medallist Kevin Maunsell (Clonmel).

DSD will be aiming to retain both team titles but Raheny Shamrock have been on a hot streak on the men’s side and will provide a formidable challenge.

Ireland’s leading masters will also be competing with the likes of Phelim Glynn (Dinboyne) and Pauric McKinney (Inishowen) in the M50 section while Maxine Jones (DSD) and Carmell Parnell (Leevale) compete in the F60 with Claire McCarthy (Leevale) in the F40.
