Morland withdraws after promising start in Poland

Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) unfortunately had to withdraw from the heptathlon after a promising start due to injury at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland today (July 21).

Morland was in 9th place after two events of the heptathlon but had to withdraw due to a knee injury. She had clocked 13.84 for the 100m hurdles and 1.68m in the high jump. The Meath schoolgirl finished 10th at the World Youth championships last year and looked on course for another similar placing. 

Tomorrow sees the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams in action along with Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport) in the 200m. Adam King (Iveragh) will compete in the men's hammer final at 19:25 after his record-breaking performance in the qualifying group.
