Morton Games Welcomes International Talent

This year’s Morton Games will be awash with top class Irish and International talent. Heather Kampf (Team USA Minnesota), US 1 Mile Road Champion, and Molly Huddle, US 5000m Record Holder, will both make their first appearances at the games. Igor Bychkov (Spain) and Luke Cutts (The Dearne ALC, GB) will return for a second time hoping to reignite their fierce rivalry from last year’s games which led to a new stadium record.

US Champ Heather Kampf confirmed for Mile

  • It has been confirmed that Heather Kampf (Team USA Minnesota) will participate in the Clonliffe Women’s International Mile at Morton Games.
  • One of the top athletes on the US circuit. She has been particularly successful on the popular road circuit and is the reigning US 1 Mile Road champion.
  • Winning the The Ryan Shay Mile and the Liberty Mile has earned her the nickname in the States of ‘Queen of the Road Mile’.
  • Whilst at the University of Michigan she was a 9 time NCAA All American and was the NCAA 800 Indoor Champion in 2006.
  • In 2014 she competed in the World Indoor 1500 metres in Sopot. Heather boasts an impressive set of PBs, her 1500 PB is 4.07.15 set on the 25th of April this year at Des Moines. Her indoor mile PB is 4.30.14 with a road mile best of 4.27.1.

Cutts and Bychkov to go head to head

  • Hot on the heels of the confirmation from Igor Bychkov (ESP), the joint pole vault stadium record holder Luke Cutts (The Dearne ALC, GB) has confirmed his participation for this year’s Morton Games.
  • These two athletes were involved in one of the most dramatic events at the 2013 Morton Games when they jointly set a new stadium record of 5.56m. Vault after vault and they could not be separated and as exhaustion eventually set in a tie was declared.
  • Since those Morton Games Cutts has gone on to extend his PB outdoors to 5.70m, in London the 27th of July and this year on the 25th of January 2014 vaulted to a new Indoor PB 5.83m.
  • It is fantastic to see that these two world class athletes are coming back to Santry to thrill the Morton Stadium crowd.

US Record Holder confirms for Women’s Mile

  • US 5000m record holder Molly Huddle will be participating in the 2014 Women’s International Mile (sponsored by Clonliffe Harriers) at the Morton Games.
  • Molly Huddle set the blistering 5000m 14.44.76 record at the 2010 Ivo Van Damme Memorial Meet in Brussels.
  • She is an Olympic 5000m finalist having made the final at the London Olympics.
  • She has represented the United States twice at the world championships and three times at world cross country championships.
  • She has a 1500m PB of 4.08.09 and a 10000 PB of 30.47.59 set as recently as the 4th of May.
