Neville and Akpe-Moses on form in Finland

Ciara Neville (Emerald) and Gina Akpe-Moses (Blackrock-Louth) showed good form in advancing to the semi-finals of the 100m at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland today (July 11).

Neville ran her second fastest ever 100m in 11.54 to finish second and qualify automatically for the semi-finals.

Akpe-Moses also finished second in her heat to advance in 11.58 seconds. "I need to be aggressive and meet it head-on," said Akpe-Moses afterwards.

The women’s 100m semi-finals are at 16:00 tomorrow and final at 19:15.

Jo Keane (Ennis Track) finished fifth in her 800m semi-final in 2:06.91, a lifetime best when it mattered most.

Davicia Patterson (Beechmount Harriers) was third in her 400m semi-final in 53.57 - narrowly missing out on a place in the final and finished 11th overall.

Arron Sexton (North Down) runs in the heats of the men’s 200m at 11:58am Irish time with the semi-finals later at 16:25.
