New Years Day 5k Road Race in the
Phoenix Park
10 December 2004
Liffey Valley Athletic Club and Dublin City Harriers will join
forces to stage
the Tom
Brennan 5k Memorial Trophy Race in the Phoenix Park on New Years Day,
giving athletes an opportunity to get 2005 underway with a race in
the
Park.
The course will be a
two lap event
taking in the Main Road, Furze Road and
Ordinance
Survey Road loop which will provide runners with a flat course
devoid of the hills which regularly feature in Phoenix Park races
nowadays.
Which could mean a
new 5k p.b. for many runners. What a way to start the New Year.
The race will be a
good opportunity for cross country runners looking for a fast race
and for track runners to assess the progress of their winter
training.
The Tom Brennan
Trophy,
which is a specially sculptured bronze trophy depicting the late Tom
in action in the National Cross Country Championships in Belfield in
1975 (a
race he won),
will go to the individual winner of the race.
Saturday January 1st
2005 @ 12
noon.
There will be prizes for the first
three individuals, both men and women and the first three teams in
both categories. There will also be prizes in a wide range of
veteran classes. Entry fee will be €10. Special Souvenir to the
first 500 entrants.
