Breda Synnott RIP

POSTED:

It is with great sadness we report the death, after a long illness, of Breda Synnott Honorary Life Vice President of Athletics Ireland

Breda had a distinguished record of involvement in the sport for over 40 years at all levels.

In 1968 she co founded  her beloved St Benedict's AC in Arklow . Breda's first major appointment at national level was her elevation to Juvenile Secretary of BLOE in 1978. She subsequently served as National Juvenile Secretary from 1982 until 1997 when she elected Chairman and continued in that position until 2008 when she resigned due to illness.  In 2006 she was elected as  Deputy President of Athletics Ireland.

In 2008 Breda was honoured by Athletics Ireland with a Lifetime Achievement Award. At the Juvenile Star Awards in 2009 Breda was honoured when a magnificent booklet tribute  was presented to her on an emotional occasion.

It is just over a year since her husband Mark, who also made a substantial contribution to the sport, passed away.
