Rita was a member of Navan AC committee since the foundation of the club in 1973, she was the club’s first secretary and club chairperson on a number of occasions. Rita was the Navan delegate for many years at county, provincial and national level. She was one of the influential people that ensured Claremount Stadium was built in Navan working tirelessly to secure planning permission, grants and so much more.

Rita held a number of positions at national level; she was NACAI National Juvenile Secretary from 1974-78, Coaching Secretary to the National Senior NACAI Board, National NACAI Secretary for thirteen years (1982-1990), National President NACAI for three years (1995-1997), a member of the Board of AAI and a member of the AAI Finance Committee.

Rita was honoured for her contribution to athletics; at the 2013 AGM she received an IAAF Certificate for her services to athletics at club, county, provincial and national level. In 2015 Rita was inducted into the Meath Hall of Fame for her contribution to sport in the area.

Rita will be missed by all in the athletics community. May She Rest in Peace
