Shanahan Sixth in 800m Final at World Youth Olympics

Louise Shanahan (Leevale AC) ran a personal best and claimed an impressive 6th in the final of the 800m at the Youth Olympics in China running 2.08.29. This improves on 2.08.75 she set when winning gold medal at the European Youth Olympics in Utrecht, Holland last year showing her ability to perform at championships. The race was won by Martha Bissah of Ghana in 2.04.91, Shanhan was the third European across the line.

Throws Final

Eoin Sheridan (North Westmeath AC) finished 13th overall in Men Discuss Final with 51.19 and placed fifth in the B final.

Adam King (Iveragh AC) and Michaela Walsh will compete almost at the same time tomorrow. Adam King is the third person to throw in the A final of a very strong boy’s hammer contest which starts at 1.20pm on Sunday (Irish time). Favourite for this event will be Bence Halász from Hungary who was a World Youth leading throw of 87.16m to his credit this year.

Michaela Walsh (Swinford AC) will also go in the A Final of the Shot having thrown a personal best of 15.59m to reach this A Final. This event is scheduled to start at 1.25pm on Sunday (Irish time). Michaela will throw 8th of the 8 throwers in the final.

200m B Final 

Roseanna McGuckian will be the next Irish competitor in action tomorrow in the B Final of a very competitive 200m. this race is due off at 03.42am on Saturday night/Sunday morning Irish time). Roseanna is drawn in lane 4 and having finished ranked 10th after the heats, Roseanna will hope to be very competitive in this final.
