He competed for UCC from 1958-1963. He represented UCC 11 times & IUAA 8 times in the 100yds , 200yds , 440yds and 4 X 110yds.

His pbs were as follows:

110yds.     9.80.     1963 gold IUAA record

220yds.    23.30.    1963 silver

440yds.    50.70.    1963 gold UCC record

4x110yds. 44.00.    1962 gold IUAA record

In the records of best male performances in 100yds from 1927-1971 he was ranked joint 1st along with John Kilpatrick, QUB with a time of 9.80.

Cashel was also very closely associated with Cork City Sports being their chief starter for many years. He was always so distinguished looking at the start in his whites.
